The 9 biggest questions we have after watching 'Stranger Things' season 2

Will Steve get into college?

Will Steve get into college?

Honestly, this is the only question that matters. In the first episode of season two, Nancy helps Steve with a personal essay for college, and he's struggling to make it work. Steve says he'll probably just stay in Hawkins and work for his dad, so he can be around for Nancy's senior year. But now that his relationship with Nancy is over, all he has to do is send a picture of his hair as his admissions essay and he will get in anywhere he wants.

Where are Eleven's other "siblings?" What are their abilities?

Where are Eleven's other "siblings?" What are their abilities?

In season two we (barely) meet Eight, who grew up with Eleven at Hawkins Lab. Eight has a special ability, too, that is much different than Eleven's. Eight can make people see, or not see, whatever she wants — from butterflies, to spiders, to explosions and giant walls. Eight uses her abilities to kill bad guys, and does so with a team of misfit punks who rely on her powers to get away with it.

Anyone who can count to Eleven can probably determine that there are more children from Hawkins Lab out there. Who are they? Where are they? What are their powers? Eleven seems more interested in pursuing a normal life in Hawkins for now, but she might have to find these other people like her to defeat what the shadow monster and the Upside Down have planned next.

Unfortunately, that probably means we'll see Eight again, and her storyline was the most disappointing part of the season.

Is there a way to destroy the Upside Down?

Is there a way to destroy the Upside Down?

Eleven can open and close the gate to the Upside Down. But can she destroy it for good? Please say "yes."

Is Will finally rid of his connection to the Upside Down?

Is Will finally rid of his connection to the Upside Down?

Will gets possessed by the shadow monster, and before that he burps what turns out to be a demodog (AKA: Dart). Now that the shadow monster is out of him, and the gate to the Upside Down is closed, has Will finally gotten rid of his connection to the gross world of floating white stuff and monsters? Or will it stay with him forever? We feel kind of bad for Will at this point, and want him to have a better life, so maybe someone else can be haunted by the Upside Down next time.

Did Dart intentionally save Dustin and friends?

Did Dart intentionally save Dustin and friends?

In the tunnels, Dustin has a little reunion with his temporary pet/cat murderer, Dart the demodog. Dustin gives Dart a 3 Musketeers bar, and Dart lets them pass. Does Dart do this on purpose, or does the 3 Musketeers bar really distract him that much?

Dart saves the day, whether he knows it or not. If Dustin hadn't given Dart an affection for 3 Musketeers, they would've been demodog meat in the tunnels, ridding us of more than half of the show's cast. And Steve would've gone down in history as the worst babysitter ever.

What is Billy's problem with Lucas? Why did Billy and Max's family move to Hawkins?

What is Billy's problem with Lucas? Why did Billy and Max's family move to Hawkins?

Billy is a mystery.

First, here's what we do know:

  • Billy is really mean to Max.
  • Billy and Max recently moved to Hawkins from California.
  • Billy is a bully. Billy has a problem with Lucas, for unknown reasons. He really, really doesn't want his stepsister, Max, to be around Lucas. So much so that he tries to beat up Lucas, but beats up Steve instead.
  • Billy's dad (Max's step dad) is a physically and verbally abusive jerk.

Nowhere in the season do we find out more about Billy and Max. We get to know Max's personality since she gets much more screen time, but ultimately Billy is just a one-dimensional bully, who beats Steve to a pulp which helps the kids get to the tunnels to help Eleven close the gate to the Upside Down.

So it leaves us wondering: Why is Billy even around? Why does he hate Lucas? His hatred toward him is never made clear, and we never find out what caused the family's sudden move to the small Indiana town.

Is there anyone left to hunt down Eleven? AKA: Is Dr. Brenner alive or dead?

Is there anyone left to hunt down Eleven? AKA: Is Dr. Brenner alive or dead?

The last we see of Dr. Brenner in season one, the Demogorgon attacks him, implying that he doesn't survive. But on Eleven's trip to Chicago, Eight implies that he could be alive, and uses her powers to make Eleven see him.

Pretty much everyone except Dr. Owens is dead, and he's helping Hopper protect her. So who's after Eleven, now that all employees at Hawkins Lab are demodog meat? Dr. Brenner might be out there somewhere, conducting more experiments outside of Hawkins. And he could be coming for Eleven and Eight next. Eleven believed Dr. Brenner was dead as Barb, but after visiting Eight in Chicago, she's not so sure. And we're not, either.

Will the Upside Down ever affect anyone outside of Hawkins? Or anyone in Hawkins who doesn't already know about it?

Will the Upside Down ever affect anyone outside of Hawkins? Or anyone in Hawkins who doesn't already know about it?

"Stranger Things" is at its best when the events and the characters are confined to the town of Hawkins, Indiana. At this point, Hawkins appears to be the only town in the world affected by these supernatural events. And, more specifically, the people affected by them seem to be the ones who know about it, or the people close to them.

Bob sacrifices himself the the demodogs (or stupidly just stands there when he knew he was being hunted), but he knew about the Upside Down for at least a day, and was dating Joyce Byers, who knew about it.

We also see the tunnels affect farmers in the area. But at what point does the very dangerous Upside Down become an actual life or death threat to other people outside of the main cast? For the threat to feel believable, it will have to grow moving forward.

Can the shadow monster break the gate between the Upside Down and the real world?

Can the shadow monster break the gate between the Upside Down and the real world?

The gang contains the shadow monster when Eleven closes the gate to the Upside Down, but they definitely don't defeat it. The tease at the end of the season shows that this is definitely not the last we'll see of the shadow monster.

The shadow monster is coming for the people of Hawkins, but how, and why? With the gate to the Upside Down closed and Hawkins Lab abandoned, how can the shadow monster break into the outside world? Does the shadow monster just want to kill (eat) everybody?
